Become a platelet or plasma donor

Residents can now donate platelet and plasma at the Westwood Mall fully operational SANBS Specialised Collections Unit.

THE South African National Blood Services Specialised collections unit is now situated and fully operational at Westwood Mall Shopping Centre.

Donors are able to donate platelets, plasma as well as blood. Regular and loyal donor, Charlie Anderson has donated more than 278 units and has challenged other Highway residents to consider becoming a platelet or plasma donor.

“As part of the spring initiative, all donors who sign up to donate platelet or plasma will receive a free pot plant as a gesture of appreciation,” said donor relations officer, Neelashan Govender.

The Westwood Mall clinic is open on weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00. On Saturday and Sunday, the clinic is open from 09:00 to 15:00.

To donate platelets and plasma, a donor has to meet the following requirements:

– Be between the ages of 18 to 65

– Weigh more than 55kg

– Have a light meal prior to donating – Le

ad a sexually safe and healthy lifestyle.
