Kloof residents plant a greener future

The Kloof community planted 170 trees to celebrate Arbor Day.

TO celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, September 4, the Kloof community were out in full force planting a further 170 trees.

Kloof is well-known and loved for its prolific vegetation, but to secure a future legacy of a green corridor in the shopping and railway zone especially, the Kloof Project with the support of Kloof residents, over the past three years, have planted many hundreds of indigenous trees which will create an amazing avenue of trees for the beautiful view and to welcome more birds and butterflies into the area.

Kloof High, Kloof Senior and Junior Primary and St Mary’s all sent representatives to plant trees on behalf of the Kloof youth, and many families recognised the opportunity to plant something for their future generations to enjoy and appreciate.

“This is likely to be the last effort as we have achieved our aim in terms of new tree numbers,” said chairman of The Kloof Project, Chris Dalzell.

“As we all in time help get Category 1 invasive alien trees under control, these indigenous ones will take their pride of place instead.

“Kloof is naturally a grassland zone, so this will be another objective we intend on promoting,” added Dalzell.
