Zahra makes the perfect serve

St Mary’s DSG, Kloof’s high school SPAR Star of the Month - August 2021.

ST Mary’s DSG, Kloof’s high school SPAR Star of the Month is Grade 8 learner, Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira.

Zahra started tennis lessons at four years old and it was only when she was in Grade 4 that she took part in her first tennis tournament.

She is an extremely diligent sportswoman, training approximately two hours a day, five days a week with her coach, Mark Vorwerk. She recently represented KwaZulu-Natal in the U15A tennis team at the Interprovincial Tennis Tournament held at TUKS University in Pretoria. She won all of her singles and mixed doubles matches, and her team placed second overall.

At the end of August she will compete at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Tour, also in Pretoria. Sportsmen and women under the age of 18 from all over the world will participate in this event.

“It is a huge accomplishment and honour to attend an event of this calibre. Zahra, we wish you all the best, you truly are remarkable and you’ve already made us very proud,” said the school’s head of sport, Janet Nicklin.
