Dumping drama continues at recycling depot

The non-profit organisation reminds residents that is does not accept any form of plastic.

WITH no end in sight to the continuous dumping taking place at the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association’s (KHBA) recycling centre, a concerned resident offered to sponsor the cost of a cleaner at the site.

The non-profit organisation said it took no less than four days after a deep clean for a handful of illegal dumpers to take advantage of the empty site on Delamore Road.

“Following a post on the KHBA Facebook page, we received an amazing offer from Lisa Gray. She offered to sponsor the expense to hire Vusi Shezi, who will help clean up at the recycling centre. Extra hands are always so very welcome as the work is very labour intensive,” said the organisation’s Marge Mitchell.

Mitchell noted the site was regularly abused by a minority of illegal dumpers who drop their refuse at the site.

“Please place your rubbish in black bags and plastic in clear or orange bags on your verge on DSW collection day and respect the recycling centre,” she said.

The numerous hours that are spent to ensure the area is kept neat, clean and organised meant there was less time spent on the main task of sorting the recyclables.

“KHBA thanks the many people who utilise the site responsibly and we are grateful for your support,” said Mitchell.

The centre accepts:
Paper, cardboard, large polystyrene, cans, tins, bottles and jar glass.

Not accepted:
Plastic is not accepted at the site.
