A HANGING Hearts for Heroes campaign was launched to help give children a chance to say ‘thank you’ to the first responders, volunteers and patrollers.
“The children were seeing their dads and brothers go out from 4am or until 4am and the children were asking what they could do,” said mom, Tracy Smith.
She contacted Westville Junior Primary School with her idea and the school gave the project a hearty thumbs up.

“It was a way for children to be a part of this in some positive way and to say thank you to the parents who gave of their time to help the community in some way,” she said.
With trays filled with colourful, laminated hearts, permanent marker pens and ribbon, children were encouraged to hang a heart with a personal message to their hero in their community. By the end of the morning, the fence was a rainbow of hanging hearts filled with beautiful messages from children across the Highway area.
