WATCH: Kloof SPCA reunites family with dog after two-month search

The dog was over the moon to be reunited with its owners.

AFTER two months of frantic searching for their beloved pet, a local family contacted the Kloof and Highway SPCA on Sunday to say their dog was in its care.

It was Romeo’s (the dog) reaction to seeing his owners that saw his story go viral on social media yesterday.

Excited to be reunited with their dog, the family was at the Kloof and Highway SPCA when its doors opened for trade on Monday morning.

“The reunion between Romeo and his family brought tears to everyone’s eyes. His owner was on his knees as he could not believe that, after two painful and long months, he had found his beloved dog. He never stopped looking,” said the non-profit organisation’s Brigitte Ferguson.

The happy-go-lucky dog was said to have spent its days looking out of his kennel with a longing gaze, in constant search for his family.

While he was microchipped, Romeo’s chip was never registered and made it impossible for the animal welfare to locate his owners.

“The Kloof and Highway SPCA would like to remind all pet owners that it is vital to place lost reports with all the surrounding SPCAs, as well as ensure their pets are not only microchipped but that the microchips are registered,” said Ferguson.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA’s clinic offers microchipping for R275 per animal, from Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 14:00.
