FOUR suspects were arrested in Seaview for common robbery after a fight over the stolen goods broke out between a group of friends.

According to Bellair SAPS communications officer, Sgt Pam Pillay, the suspects robbed a 19-year-old victim on 18 June.

Pillay said the victim was exiting his residential yard when he was approached by a group of men and a woman in a vehicle.

“One of the men got off the vehicle and grabbed the victim him by his throat and demanded his belongings.

“The victim, who knew the suspect well, did not defend himself as he was afraid for his safety. He allowed the suspect to search him and take what he had. The suspect then got into the vehicle and fled with the victim’s cash and other belongings.”

According to Pillay, one of the suspects, who did not receive his share of the stolen items, became angry and notified the police of the robbery that occurred.

“The victim was located and a case of common robbery was opened at Bellair SAPS.  Four suspects were positively identified and the property was recovered,” said Pillay.

The suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of common robbery and will remain in police custody until their next court appearance.

Members of the sector team were commended for their enthusiasm in solving this case.

“Commitment to root out criminal activities within the Bellair Policing area is a common objective that should always be realised,” said acting Vispol commander, W/O Prakash Kumar.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
