Golfers swing away for HACT’s gogos

The Kloof Round Table generated more than R90 000 for the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust through its golf day initiative.

MORE than R90 000 was raised by the Kloof Round Table during its fourth annual Goals 4 Gogos Charity Golf Day, at the Kloof Country Club, in support of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT).

With the sun out in full force and a gentle, cool breeze on their side, the morning kicked off with a buzzed and expectant atmosphere. The players signed in, picked up their goodie bags and headed onto the greens to begin their games.

“Starting with a raised tee off box for those courageous enough to brave its heights, the day was elevated from the very beginning. From hole to hole, our many sponsors could be found handing out assorted goodies to all the golfers who went by,” said the Kloof Round Table’s chairman, Matthew Hayes.

With the sheer volume of amazing prizes and sponsorships that were received for the day, the team said the event’s success was not only assured, but inevitable.

“We are proudly sponsored by Grindrod Logistics Africa, one of the many sponsors of our holes on the day. Thanks to them and many others, we were able to fundraise this absolutely terrific amount for this wonderful and worthy cause,” said Hayes.

HACT’s Gogo (Granny) Support Groups programme provides psychosocial support as well as practical and sustainable skills development, training and economic empowerment opportunities to more than 2 000 gogos through a network of over 70 support groups across 13 rural communities.

“This amazing initiative not only improves the lives of some of those who need it most but really gives them a sense of dignity and security that they otherwise may not have ever had.” Kloof Round Table’s Chairman, Matthew Hayes, said, “We would also like to thank everyone who came and participated, donated prizes or sponsored holes. The difference your contributions made is astounding.”

“We are committed to bring about impactful change. To all who donated towards our golf day and HACT’s exemplary programme, we extend a massive thank you,” said Hayes.
