Step up for Jade Sky Memorial Hike
While last year's event was entirely virtual, participants can choose take part in person or virtually this year.
JOIN the 14th annual Jade Sky Memorial Hike on Sunday, 20 June and stand in solidarity with those courageously fighting cancer and other life-threatening blood diseases.
The event, spearheaded by Ian and Mandy Tyrer of Maritzburg Tutor Centre, in association with DKMS-Africa (formerly known as The Sunflower Fund), is open to virtual and in-person supporters.
The hike is held in memory of Jade Preston who passed away from leukaemia when she was eight years old. The hike was initially held to raise funds to support Jade’s brave fight but has since been held in her memory after she passed away.

The hike appeals to outdoor and hiking enthusiasts as well as families and individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Challenge yourself to an extraordinary hike from the Sani Pass border post to the Lesotho Drakensberg border post, approximately 16km. The campaign can also be supported virtually by completing a hike or walk in your neighbourhood.
Participants are encouraged to make a much-needed donation of R120 for hikers and R50 for virtual hikers. Virtual hikers may then email a photo of their personalised hike or walk to the organiser on Sunday, 20 June. These images will be onto the official Jade Sky Hike 2021 Facebook page and shared across the DKMS Africa social media pages.
