Man arrested for attempted murder following Malvern shooting

The man approached the taxi driver, grabbed him by his neck and ordered him to get off the taxi.

A MAN appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today for attempted murder after he allegedly shot at a taxi with occupants in Ridley Park, Malvern on 15 May.

According to police, the suspect was arrested earlier today, 27 May. 

Malvern SAPS communications officer, Sgt Sithembile Kheswa said it is alleged the taxi was parked on the road with a few occupants. 

One passenger was injured during the shooting.

“A red Isuzu double cab parked next to the taxi with four occupants inside. One of the occupants jumped off the bakkie, approached the taxi driver, grabbed him by his neck and ordered him to get off the taxi.

“The driver refused and a fight broke out. The passengers screamed,” said Kheswa.

According to Kheswa, it is alleged the suspect pulled out a gun and went to the passenger side of the taxi.

“He randomly fired five shots and hit the victim on his right knee. The suspects collected all cartridges on the ground and fled the scene,” she said.

The taxi driver rushed the victim to RK Khan Hospital for treatment.
