Bring your A-game to careers expo
The Rotary Club of Hillcrest invites companies and tertiary institutions to sign up and showcase the career opportunities they have on offer for the high school learners.
IF you are unsure of what to study once high school is completed, The Rotary Club of Hillcrest, in partnership with Hillcrest High School, have you covered with the fourth annual Careers Expo from Monday, 17 to Wednesday, 19 May.
The local Rotarians have also invited all role-players to showcase what they have to offer to help springboard the future careers of the interested learners.
To create a Covid-19 friendly format, the event this year will be wholly virtual and a 20-minute time slot will be allocated to each exhibitor and questions can be posed by learners and answered by the exhibitor to encourage direct and focussed engagement. The event will start at 1pm each day and end at 5pm each day.
“We are extremely pleased to host the annual careers fair, in association with the Rotary Club of Hillcrest, in a new online format this year. A number of institutions have already signed up for the three-day virtual event and we hope that students will use this excellent opportunity to engage with them online,” said Hillcrest High School’s headmaster, Craig Girvin.
Event organiser and Rotarian, Ian Bayley, said the move to virtual has allowed them to make the costs as low as possible to attract a wide variety of exhibitors that may benefit learners.

This will include a channel set up for you to add an advert, video and any further information that you may feel as being relevant,” he said. “Our previous expo was a resounding success and we encourage all tertiary education providers to book their space as early as possible.”
All of the schools across the Highway area have been invited, including those from disadvantaged areas. The Rotary Club of Hillcrest will provide internet access for disadvantaged learners to attend in lieu of the transport that is usually provided.
“Part of the Rotary Club of Hillcrest Hillcrest’s mandate is the development of local youth via vocational training and enhancing their career opportunities. The career expo gives us the opportunity to create greater options for learners,” said the club’s president, Dennis Wesley.
Should a company or tertiary institution be willing to sponsor a learner for a full or partial bursary at their institution, contact the Rotary Club of Hillcrest and it will be promoted by the organisation.
