Metro cop accused of assault and attempted murder out on bail
The 13-year-old boy, who has a mental illness, is now too scared to go outside, said his distraught mother.
A METRO police officer, who was arrested for the attempted murder and assault of two teenage boys, was granted bail on Monday, 19 April at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
The officer’s arrest came after he allegedly assaulted two boys from Savannah Park and forced them to drink petrol after he accused them of stealing from him.

One of the boy’s mom, Sibongile Mthethwa, said they were not aware that he appeared in court.
“This is the first time I’m hearing that he appeared in the court, we were not notified,” she said.
The 13-year-old boy, who has a mental illness, is now too scared to go outside, said his distraught mother.
“After the incident, he was admitted to hospital and discharged the following day. It pains me that an adult would just beat up children without consulting with us. There is no proof that they stole from him,” said a concerned Mthethwa.
Head of Durban Metro, police commissioner Steve Middleton, said the moment they received the complaint, they instituted an internal investigation.
“The officer was issued with a signed letter of suspension last week,” he said.
The Highway Mail has also reached out to the National Prosecuting Authority for comment.
