Man to appear in Pinetown court for his mother’s murder
The body of Ncamisile Zondi (53) was found by the community in a long-drop toilet after she was reported missing.
A SUSPECT, who was on the run for almost three months following the murder of his 53-year-old mother, was arrested on Saturday, 20 March.
According to KZN police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, the victim from Luganda, Mariannhill, was reported missing on 26 December 2020.

“[She] was last seen on 23 December 2020 and community members started searching for the missing person after her case was reported to the police.”
Mbele said the search led the community to the long-drop toilet which was situated on the deceased’s yard. The community discovered that there was sand covering the functioning toilet.
“The community members removed the walls of the toilet and began digging. While digging, they noticed some clothing and bedding items followed with an unusual smell. They then stopped digging and called the police,” explained Mbele.
Mariannhill SAPS responded to the scene and called the Search and Rescue Team to assist.
Mbele said the SAPS and Metro Search and Rescue teams recovered the body of the deceased which was still recognisable.
The clothing items had some visible blood stains.
“The two-room house that belonged to the deceased was locked. When police gained entry, everything looked like it was in order except the bedding which was removed from the bed. This confirmed it was the same clothing items that were found in the toilet.”
According to Mbele, neighbours reported that the long lost son had only returned to stay with his mother and was there for about six months before the recovery of victim’s body.
Mbele said police discovered that the deceased had received her stokvel pay outs and was supposed to visit her home for the holidays as she was originally from Bulwer.

“Her son left home before Christmas and informed the neighbours that he was going to the camp at eBuhleni in Inanda. That was the last time her son was seen,” added Mbele.
Intensive investigations were conducted and the suspect was nowhere to be found.
On Saturday, 20 March, Mariannhill detectives received information that the suspect (30) was at Luganda.
They proceeded to the area and the suspect was eventually arrested.
The suspect will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today, 23 March facing murder charges.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya praised the detectives for the arrest of the suspect after he had been on a run for almost three months.
