The station’s communications officer, Capt Elizabeth Squires said they have had a few cases where the vehicle is parked in the yard behind closed gates, but suspects are still able to gain entry to the property, break into the vehicle and find valuables.
“We urge residents not to leave items including bicycles, garden equipment and braai stands visible, especially at night. Items left in full view are precipitating factors in allowing perpetrators to gain entrance and take your property which includes garden furniture,” Squires.
She advised residents to keep their entrance and fencing clear of bushes to allow more visibility as there has also been a few cases reported of victims being targeted in their driveways.
