[VIDEO] A breath of fresh air: Hillary doctor offers oxygen therapy
Dr Sunil Bissoon has offered free oxygen therapy for patients regardless of their ability to pay.
“I DON’T have the heart to sell air to the breathless,” said Dr Sunil Bissoon speaking from his office in Hillmed Centre, Stella Road.
The medical doctor is on a mission to provide oxygen to patients struggling to breath as a result of Covid-19 complications at no cost.
By the beginning of this week, the national death toll from the Coronavirus pandemic sat at 40,574, while the global death toll passed the 2 million mark with 2,112,689.

News of Bisson providing the free oxygen therapy went viral on a social media post recently.
The doctor and his team operate with eight oxygen tanks and each session lasts 45 minutes.
Alleviate suffering
“I have been fortunate with a successful practice, I feel the least I can do is help those who I am able to,” he explained. “I see so many people who are suffering and my duty as a doctor is to try to alleviate suffering wherever I can.”
Bissoon said what is needed most right now is kindness and helping one another.
“I am in the position to help, so why wouldn’t I do so? I think if everyone tried to help a person in need then we will all benefit,” he said.
Life long learning
Bissoon added: “I believe in life long learning, and it is important to me to have the skills to help people,” he said from behind a desk covered in papers and files, signs of a doctor who is hard at work, even when he isn’t seeing patients.

He grew up following the example of his parents. “My mother taught me the value of compassion and kindness, even today in her old age, she still goes out of her way to help anyone who needs help,” he said.
Patients
Bissoon said last week that over 300 of his patients had confirmed diagnoses of Covid-19, however, he suspected there were far more cases.
“This virus is very clever in that it can infect someone and not make them even feel sick, then they walk around and infect others,” he said.
