Parts of eThekwini to be affected by water supply interruption

BIRCH Road in Pinetown and some parts of Mariannhill and Queensburgh are among the Western and Southern areas of Durban where the water supply will be affected.

eThekwini Municipality’s spokesman, Msawakhe Mayisela said the City has encountered technical challenges with regards to the operations of Northdene 3 pump station.

“It was discovered that all three available pumps at Northdene 3 pump station have failed resulting in no water being pumped to all downstream reservoirs,” said Mayisela.

He said processes to procure the required equipment to fix these pump stations is currently underway, however, the lead time to commence with repair work at the pump station is three to four weeks.

Mayisela assured residents that water tankers are currently being mobilised to supply water to all affected areas.

“The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused during this period,” he added.

The following areas will experience prolonged water supply outages until the pump station is repaired: Klaarwater, Shallcross, parts of Chatsworth, Savannah Park, Welbedacht East and West, Montford, Risecliff, Arena Park, Moorton, Crossmoor, Woodhurst, St Wendolins, Luganda, Demat, parts of Mariannridge, parts of Queensburgh, Nirvana Hills, Enkoseleni and Mawelele.

The following reservoirs are therefore affected: Shallcross, Harinager, Chatsworth 4, Klaarwater, Birch Road, St Wendolins Pumps, Washington Heights and Intake road reservoirs.
