SHOTS were fired when an armed gang of six men reportedly broke into a Malvern home on Tuesday evening.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said the company’s crime prevention unit, as well as SAPS, raced to the scene after they received reports of the gunshots.
Four suspects scaled the wall of the property and were about to kick the front door in when the resident arrived home and opened the gate.

Mathios believes the homeowner’s arrival caused panic among the suspects as they scrambled back over the wall to an awaiting getaway vehicle.
“A fifth gang member, armed with an automatic rifle, positioned himself on guard just outside the target property in order to ambush any first responder,” said Mathios.
The suspects opened fire in the direction of a motorist approaching the scene.
The five suspects climbed into the awaiting getaway vehicle, driven by a sixth gang member, and fled.
The resident and the motorist were uninjured during the incident and nothing was stolen.
