Fabulous reads – Koontz delivers terrifying thriller

Book review - The Forbidden Door by Dean Koontz.

The Forbidden Door, Dean Koontz, Jonathan Ball Publishers, ISBN: 9780008291495

I HAVE to admit I’m a huge Dean Koontz fan, between him and Stephen King, my teenaged brain was filled with the stories of horror, terror and glimpses behind the curtain of the impossible realm.
The third in the Jane Hawk series, in The Forbidden Door, this New York Times bestseller author takes us on a psychological rollercoaster into the dark side of an organisation hellbent on subjugating the world by means of an insidious new technology. All of those conspiracy theories you’ve heard whispered about microchip implants, humans robbed of free will – well buckle up baby, this is it!
Hero of the story is rogue FBI agent, Jane Hawk, whose only focus, apart from saving her five-year-old son from the clutches of the bad guys, is bringing down the members of the murderous organisation that drove her husband and other fine individuals to commit suicide.
Jane knows their plan and is slowly but surely hunting them down and taking them out. The organisation is insidious and its reach is long, and it’s determined to use every possible resource to stop her, no matter how many innocent lives are lost in the process.
The story is captivating and I found myself turning the pages with the promise ‘just one more chapter’ as household chores were put on standby and my favourite TV shows relegated to Catch Up.
This is Dean Koontz at his best as he keeps your mind engaged with the twists and turns of a story that moves at a heady pace. It’s all action, mystery, horror, comedy and more. A welcome addition to my Koontz collection.
