The founders of El Gibbor Kitchen 3610, who have been taking care of the homeless in Pinetown for years, are back on the streets continuing with their feeding project.

About 50 homeless people are fed in Josiah Gumede Road (Old Main Road) on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.15pm.

“The guys on the streets are in dire need of food and prayer,” said Steph.

“We try to give them hot meals as it is homely and comforting,” she said.

The Amods also helped feed the homeless who were sheltered at Lahee Park before they were moved to Durban.

They still continue with their feeding scheme as they drive to Durban five times a week to provide lunch for them.

“It comes naturally to us, we love the homeless, they are so appreciative and yearn to be loved. It always rewarding to see them change for the better and others connecting and going back to their families,” said Hoosen.

As Christmas approaches, the Amods are appealing to the public to help them collect hampers.

“Christmas is about giving and our aim is to collect 250 hampers and 250 KFC pap meals,” said Steph.

The gift hampers will include a perfume, roll on, toothbrush, toothpaste, face towel, lotion or cream, a pack of sweets, a pack of biscuits and a slab of chocolate.

The couple will also be spending Christmas Day with the homeless.

“We will go to church in the morning and then go spend the day with the homeless. This is our third year doing this. Christmas is about spending time with family which most of them do not have,” said Hoosen.

They added that even though they can not change the whole world, it fills their hearts with joy knowing they are changing lives, one at a time.
