Big bangs: Kloof SPCA receives influx of animals

Of the 31 animals that were taken to the Kloof and Highway SPCA at the weekend, six of them have been claimed.

THIRTEEN stray dogs, 17 stray cats and a Night Adder were admitted to the Kloof and Highway SPCA as a result of the distress caused by both fireworks and the severe thunder storm at the weekend.

“Despite the eThekwini Municipality’s prohibited use of any fireworks with loud bangs, this rule was disregarded as the noise in certain suburbs resembled a warzone,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s marketing and fundraising officer, Brigitte Ferguson.

The non-profit organisation’s inspectorate team, as well kennel, reception and clinic staff worked both on Saturday evening and Sunday morning and were all on 24-hour standby for emergencies. At the time of going to print, six of the dogs were claimed by their owners.
