Pinetown couple’s special bond grows deeper

Lyn and John Hayes recently celebrated their 50th anniversary surrounded by family.

FOR Pinetown couple, Lyn and John Hayes, their unbreakable bond has continued to grow over the past five decades.

The loving couple recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their family.

Both Lyn and John were born in Pietermaritzburg.

The couple said they met through a mutual friend. “When the friend went to the army, he asked John to look after and he still does to this day,” said Lyn.

They were married at St David’s Church Pietermaritzburg on 7 November 1970.

They relocated to Pinetown in the early 80s .

John worked in the electrical field and after a number of years working as a teacher, Lyn retired in 2011. She spent a number of years at New Germany Primary School.

Lyn said she was attracted to John’s quiet nature. “He also got along very well with my family which was a bonus,” she added.

John said they were compatible from the start. “She was beautiful and she still is. We share a very special bond,” he said.

Now that they are retired, they spend most of their time caravanning, although that was before lockdown.

“We love travelling and socialising and have made good friends in our caravanning ventures,” said Lyn.

John added that their three sons played a big part in their life. “We lived for them, enjoyed raising them and they turned out well, we are very thankful for that.”

John and Lyn have four grandchildren.
