Knife-wielding men confront mother and daughter in Escombe home

The armed men demanded the mother's handbag and fled with her purse.

TWO Escombe residents were confronted by armed men in their yard when they returned home after collecting their Sassa grant on Friday afternoon (6 November).
 
Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said, “A Blue Security armed response officer arrived at the Escombe home to find the residents shaken but unharmed after the incident.”
 
 

“The suspects, who were both armed with knives, confronted the mother and daughter in their yard. They had just returned from collecting their Sassa grant when they were attacked,” Mathios said.

“The two men demanded the mother’s handbag and fled with her purse,” he said.
 
“Malvern SAPS attended the scene and investigations are continuing.  We urge all residents to be cautious when carrying large amounts of cash, and ensure that no one is following them when leaving establishments such as ATMs or collection points,” said Mathios.
