Three Mozambique spitting cobras rescued in Moseley

Evans was initially called to the home to collect just one snake and, upon arrival, he found three.

THREE Mozambique spitting cobras were caught in a yard in Moseley by snake expert, Nick Evans.

After capturing a black mamba in the Palmiet River Nature Reserve with his wife, Joelle, and his friend, Duncan Slabbert, Evans was called to a home in the Queensburgh area to catch a ‘brown snake.’

“When we arrived, the resident said she had since seen two heads, and got a photo of one, confirming that it was Mozambique spitting cobras. Two cobras!” exclaimed Evans.

Evans looked into the gap under the paving of the verandah and saw three Mozambique spitting cobras.

“I lost my mind a bit, being overjoyed and excited,” he said.

Using a homemade hook, one of Evans’ friends poked and prodded at the three snakes in attempt to move them into an easily accessible position.

“I waited with the tongs. We pulled two big ones out, with bloody mouths. I presume they were males, fighting for the female that was still inside,” said Evans.

The female snake was the last to be removed.
