Case remanded for Leighton Agg’s murder accused

The 21-year-old murder accused will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court next week for a formal bail hearing.

THE man, arrested in connection with the murder of Hillcrest resident, Leighton Agg, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s court on Tuesday and the case was remanded.

According to the deputy director of public prosecutions, Gert Nel, the accused will appear in the local court for a formal bail hearing on Tuesday, 27 October.

This is the third time the 21-year-old Malawian man has appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

He is facing charges of housebreaking with intent to rob and murder and is, so far, the only person arrested. Police say more arrests are expected.

Agg was last seen on Wednesday, 30 September, driving his white Bantam bakkie in Winston Park.

The vehicle was found abandoned, with its licence disc and number plates removed, in Pietermaritzburg.

The 42-year-old man’s body was found on 7 October under the Umgeni River Bridge on Ottosbluff Road.

According to the charge sheet the man is accused of murdering Agg by “assaulting him using a hammer and electric cord and also stabbing him with a knife.”
