Kearsney doubles up its top achievers

With three sets of hard-working twins in the 2020 matric year, the school's virtual awards ceremony was a fantastic affair.

KEARSNEY College’s virtual prize-giving revealed some fascinating statistics and 40 per cent of its matric learners achieved an aggregate of more than 75 per cent, among them are three sets of twins.

The boys were addressed from Texas in the United States by virtual guest speaker Dr Michael Belfort, a Kearsney old boy who successfully developed a minimally-invasive approach to repairing congenital spinal cord abnormalities in-utero.

Matthew Strauss was announced Dux of Kearsney this year. He received academic honours cum laude for an aggregate higher than 86 per cent, as well as subject prizes for English, English essay, history, history essay, music and life orientation.

His twin brother, Janco, also achieved academic honours (between 80 to 85 per cent), while Timothy van Tonder received academic honours cum laude and the prize for advanced programme mathematics and his twin, Daniel, achieved academic honours. Twins Jared and Wesley Uys received academic honours and colours (75 to 79 per cent) respectively. Jared also received the business studies prize.

The coveted trophy for best all-rounder in the sixth form was awarded to head prefect, Aaron Smith. He was awarded academic honours and played first team for rugby, 7s rugby and basketball and was also a driving force in community outreach programmes.

The boys have started their final IEB examinations.
