Man seriously injured in N3 accident, airlifted to hospital
Traffic was brought to standstill as the highway had to be closed for rescuers to attend to the injured.
A MAN was airlifted to hospital after the car he was driving collided with a truck on the N3 westbound, before the Richmond Road off-ramp, earlier today, (Thursday, 8 October).
The accident brought traffic to a standstill. Part of the highway had to be closed while rescuers tended to the scene.

Rescue Care Paramedics spokesperson, Rowan Scandroglio said a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found in a critical condition entrapped inside the vehicle.
He said paramedics arrived on the scene to find total carnage.
“A light delivery vehicle had lost control on the eastbound carriageway before crossing over the median and colliding head-on with a truck.”
According to Scandroglio, Rescue Care Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man and placed him on a manual ventilator while the Durban Fire Department used the jaws of life to extricate the man.

“Once free, the man was airlifted to hospital by the Netcare 911 Aero Medical Helicopter.”
He said the driver of another vehicle involved in the accident, also a male believed to be in his 30s, sustained serious injuries and was also entrapped in the vehicle.
“He was stabilised in the vehicle before being extricated with the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment. Once free, the man was transported by road to a nearby Durban hospital.”
The driver of the truck sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on the scene before transported to a nearby Durban hospital.
Scandroglio added that events leading up to the accident are unknown, however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
