Woza Moya launches double art exhibition

By purchasing work from the exhibition, you are helping Woza Moya empower artists in the Valley of 1 000 Hills.

THE Woza Moya gallery in Hillcrest has been transformed into an eclectic space with baskets from Zimbabwe, Xhosa beadwork and dozens of bright modern paintings as two exhibitions will end on 6 November.

One of the exhibits is of Tembu beadwork.

“Beautiful Thembu beadwork pieces were donated to Woza Moya by June Tucker and these pieces, along with a few pieces loaned by Gill Browne, form the body of the exhibition,” said Woza Moya’s manager, Paula Thomson.

Added to the beadwork exhibition are photos by Pauline Ingle and books by Ronald Ingle that reflect the time and the backdrop when the beadwork was made.

“These are one-off pieces and will not be found easily again. If you have a passion for Xhosa beadwork this exhibition is a must,” said Thomson,

The second part of the exhibit features work by Hillcrest’s mixed media artist Fyonn Kane.

The self-taught artist is fascinated by fantasy and has a love and passion for painting in funky watercolours, oils and acrylics.

Her work is influenced by her surroundings, science fiction, contemporary art and even old classic artists such as Gustav Klimt, Jackson Pollock and Van Gogh.
