Aletta Johnson said she was pleasantly surprised that there were still people with good hearts out there.

“He did not have to do it but he did, with a smile. He went above and beyond the call of duty to assist us,” said Johnson who took to Facebook on Sunday, 20 September to sing Mhlanyawo’s praises.

Johnson said they were coming from Queensburgh to do grocery shopping in Hillcrest, “I was stranded at the Engen garage in Hillcrest next to Oxford. We had a problem with the car overheating. We stopped at the Engen garage to check if there was still water.”

The Seaview resident said it was a scary moment.

“I was with my sister-in-law and her two young children. They were screaming in the car.”

She said Mhlalanyawo opened the bonnet, spotted the leak, fixed and the pipe.

“He made me start the car like three or four times to make sure that I had enough water.

“He did all that for me with a smile, he went out of his way, we took an hour of his time. I am so grateful to him,” said Johnson.

Mhlalanyawo said his response to Johnson’s plight came naturally.

”I was raised to respect people and help where I can.”

The Ntshongweni resident said he went out of his way especially because Johnson is a woman.

“I also have a daughter who owns a car. Maybe one day she will need help and a good Samaritan will come to her rescue.”
