Armed robbers target high school learner in New Germany

The armed men fled the scene in a dark-green VW Jetta.

A HIGH school learner was held up at gunpoint on Friday morning while he was walking to school in New Germany.

“The student was held up at gunpoint by three suspects at about 6.45am,” said Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

The suspects, wearing overalls, stopped the pupil at the intersection of Rethmann and Wehaus Road, and demanded that he hand over his cellphone.

They fled the scene in a dark-green VW Jetta.

“School pupils and other pedestrians are urged to be aware of their surroundings and to conceal cellphones and valuables, where possible, so as not to be a target of opportunistic thieves,” said Mathios.
