Armed men storm Westville hospital

In an attack very similar to one which took place in July last year, the robbers stole flat screen TVs from the hospital foyer.

A GROUP of armed men stormed Life Westville Hospital during the early hours of yesterday morning, (Tuesday, 1 September).

The hospital’s manager, Atish Maharaj, confirmed the incident had taken place and that two flat screen TVs were removed from wall brackets in the main reception and loaded into the suspect’s vehicle.

“None of our employees were injured in the incident, and the incident did not result in any panic,” said Maharaj.

Maharaj added that National Security and the South African Police Services were alerted to the incident and an investigation is underway.

However, Capt Nqobile Gwala of KZN SAPS media centre confirmed that a security guard at the hospital laid a complaint that he had been assaulted by three men while performing his duties at the hospital.

“The complainant alleged that this morning at 5:45am, he was performing his duties as a security guard at a local hospital in Westville when he was accosted by three men who assaulted him,” said Gwala.

“The took two TV’s and fled the scene in their gateway vehicle.  A case of robbery was opened at Westville police station for investigation,”  said Gwala.

This isn’t the first time the hospital has been targeted this way.
