Durban PI exposes online job recruitment scam
Rick Crouch and Associates has uncovered an online job recruitment and background check scam.
LOCAL private investigator, Rick Crouch has warned Highway residents about an online background check scam.
Crouch, of Rick Crouch and Associates, said he receives about 20 calls each week from people who have requested a background check for a job they have been offered.
“This job offer is a scam. Potential job seekers are being scammed out of what little money they have,” said Crouch.
He said the victim receives an e-mail which informs them that their job application was successful.
They are then told they need to have a background check and screening before the process can be finalised.
The victims are told to go for a background check which costs R350 – for a job that never existed.

Investigations revealed that the company victims are referred to via this scam for the background checks has not registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA).
Crouch said that if a company requests a person to conduct their own background check for a job, they should dig deeper as this is completed by the company or by the placement agency.
