Taxi Association chairman murder suspect appears in Pinetown Magistrate’s Court

When the suspect was arrested he was also found in possession of illegal ammunition.

A 27-YEAR-OLD man, accused of killing Dan Mdabe (41), the former chairman of the Taxi Association, will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today.

KZN SAPS spokesman, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said Mdabe was shot multiple times on Intake Road in Mariannhill  and was declared dead at the scene.

“On 30 July 2020, the Provincial Taxi Task Team conducted an operation in Folweni following investigations into the suspects involved in the murder. The team arrested a 27-year-old suspect for murder. He was also found in illegal possession of 35 rounds of ammunition,” said Gwala.

The suspect will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today on charges of murder and illegal possession of ammunition.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, congratulated the team for the arrest of the suspect.

“It is very disturbing to see a number of people in the taxi industry losing their lives so brutally. We are appealing to those involved in the taxi industry to resolve their differences in a peaceful manner,” he said.
