Pinetown resident hijacked outside home

The gang of armed men did not gain access to the property.

A PINETOWN resident escaped serious injury when he was hijacked outside his home on Sunday afternoon.

“The victim parked his vehicle on the road at about 5.30pm when a car stopped behind him and three armed occupants got out. The suspects threatened him with firearms and robbed him of his cellphone before fleeing in the hijacked vehicle,” said a Blue Security tactical ambassador for the Highway area*.

No shots were fired in the incident, but the hijacked victim hurt his ankle when he jumped over a wall to escape the armed hijackers. The gang of men did not gain entry to the property and nothing else was reported stolen.

A case was opened and Malvern SAPS attended the scene.

In a separate incident, an armed robbery occurred in a semi-industrial area of New Germany just before midnight on Sunday.

“Three suspects, one of whom was armed with a gun, attacked and injured security guards on site,” the spokesman said.

The thieves removed and stole two wheels from a bakkie parked on the premises. Paramedics were called to the scene to treat the two security guards who were hurt during the armed robbery. One guard injured his right knee while the other hurt his right arm.
