Fabulous reads – Soar back into Eragon’s vast world

Book review - The Fork, the Witch and the Worm (Tales from Alagaësia Volume 1: Eragon) by Christopher Paolini.

The Fork, the Witch and the Worm (Tales from Alagaësia Volume 1: Eragon), Christopher Paolini, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781 9848 94885

READERS can glide back into the vast world of Alagaësia, if only for a short while, with Christopher Paolini’s latest offering.

It has been nine years since the final book, Inheritance, was published and I remember the uproar many fans created shortly after its release. The arch wasn’t wrapped up with a neat little bow and there was a wide open ending (spoiler).

While nine years have passed in the real world, only one has passed since Galbatorix was defeated and Eragon set off on his grand journey to find a new home to train the next generation of Dragon Riders.

There are three separate stories in this novel and, despite one of them being a bit long in the tooth, they are quite enjoyable and make the trip back into Alagaësia a welcome one. Expect dragons, Urgals, more dragons, Murtagh and, as Paolini does best, another cliffhanger ending.

As the title suggests, this is the first in a volume and it could possibly be the bridge in a brand new series. Fellow Eragon fans, we can only hold thumbs and hope.
