School work App to assist learners in lockdown

The app, which can be downloaded onto a cellphone or any smart device, follows the government curriculum.

WITH schools closed during the lockdown, learners are working from home to keep up to date with their work and this can present a challenge to both children and their parents.

That’s where iWhiz comes in- the App that parents can download on to their cellphone or any smart device.

The App contains up to date lesson plans for course work for Grade R to Grade 12.

David Dillon, iWhiz manger for Durban, said the app follows the government curriculum and subjects are broken down per week.

Grade 7 learner Njabulo Luvuho uses the iWhizz App.

“We are following the government guideline as closely as possible,” he said.

“We are getting subject matter experts to create worksheets which we are loading onto the App, specifically for matric learners, these are free and can be accessed at iwhiz.co.za ” he added.

The App works offline, making it an ideal option for learners without internet access.

“You need internet access to download the App completely, thereafter, it’s used offline,” said Dillon.

The App allows learners to access up to date content and work at their own pace.

“They can log on and select Grade 7 English, for example. The child will access a lesson session that teachers would have taught in class that day. It uses videos and animations to keep the child’s attention. It’s got every single subject,” said Dillon.

While there is an annual fee of R199 per grade curriculum per year, iWhiz is donating 500 free packages to children in need.

“The idea is that children can catch up on everything they have missed at school. We will keep running it until midyear,” said Dillon.
