Gavin joins Curro Hillcrest family

With a host of experience under his belt, Gavin will take on the role of head of high school at Curro Hillcrest.

CURRO Hillcrest recently welcomed its new head of high school, Gavin Bellman. Gavin brings with him a wealth of independent education in a wide variety of areas.

He joins the school from Reddam uMhlanga where he held the position of deputy headmaster. During his career, he has taught as Kingsway, Hillcrest High School, and was at Thomas More College for a number of years in various management roles.

Gavin has marked matric IEB examinations for a number of years and is an experienced mathematics and advanced mathematics teacher. He is an all-round schoolmaster who believes in a holistic education.

Gavin is a keen sportsman and has completed 25 Midmar Miles as well as the Comrades Marathon. At school level, he has been thoroughly involved in water polo and swimming and has served on the KwaZulu-Natal Water Polo Association.

He believes in actively promoting team activities at school and said, “It develops all the individuals who find themselves operating in that arena.”

During his interview, it was evident that he is a servant leader who is passionate about growth and development.

“I am passionate about teaching and working with young people. It is a privilege to be involved in the development of young learners as they grow and mature into adults who hopefully love living and become constructive, productive members of their respective communities. I eagerly embrace the surprises and challenges that life throws at one and I live by my motto: be the best version of yourself that you were created to be. Always,” said Gavin.

Gavin is a committed Christian and has been involved with his local church in the Upper Highway area. A particular aspect he has enjoyed and managed are the youth camps during the holidays.

“He will be a fine addition to our management team. We look forward to his contribution and wisdom,” said the school’s executive headmaster, Guthrie.
