Beat the lockdown blues, showcase your talent online

This online talent search initiative is a great opportunity for aspiring performers between the ages of five and 19.

DID you discover a hidden talent during this lockdown period? Or perhaps had more time to hone the talent you knew you already possessed? Well, aspiring performers, aged between five and 19, now have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a 90-second video.

Well-known Durban actress, singer and musical theatre coach, Lisa Bobbert, has introduced a major new talent search and showcase initiative for aspirant young South African performers that has been launched online by acclaimed Starz at Home. There is also a family category if participants enjoy performing with their dad or mum.

Bobbert said the qualities the judges are looking for include: a special talent, authenticity, the ability to radiate a love for performing and a certain zaniness.
The categories are: dance, vocals, acting and musical variety.

Under each category you will find various styles you can enter. If your style is not featured you can choose the ‘other’ option. There is no limit to the number of entries per contestant.

How it works:
Enter online at www.webtickets.co.za. Registration is R50 per solo category (five to 19 years) and R100 for a family (two or more people in an item – no age restriction).

Once you have registered and made payment, go to your ‘My tickets’ tab where you will find your barcoded ticket/s – the barcode number will be your entry number – each item entered will have its own unique number.

How to submit your video:
1. Film your 90-second video by introducing yourself, followed by your performance.
2. Join the Starz At Home Facebook page and upload your video. In the comments section write your name, age and ticket number (barcode number).
3. Once your video is uploaded – send and share to all your friends – there is a Fan Favourite prize for the video with the most likes and shares.
4. Deadline for entries and uploads is 31 May and winners will be announced on Friday, 12 June.

There are loads of prizes up for grabs for best overall performance, category winners, the video that gets the most likes and shares and contestants who shine in three or more categories.

“Good luck peeps! Let’s get the talent rolling!” said Bobbert.
