City of Durban invites non-profits to apply for grant-in-aid

The call for new applications for sundry Grant-in-Aid for the 2020/2021 financial year was approved and applications will be open on 1 April.

AT a recent municipal Governance and Human Resources Committee meeting at the Durban City Hall, the ad-hoc award of Grant-in-Aid to two organisations was approved.

Grant-in-Aid is provided to organisations who share the City’s vision to improve the standard of living for communities around them and eradicate poverty, and an amount of around R161 450 has been set aside for organisations which specifically deal with gender-based violence and child protection programmes respectively.

The call for new applications for sundry Grant-in-Aid for the 2020/2021 financial year was approved. The call for applications will be advertised and will open on 1 April and close on 1 June.

The advertisement with all the details calling for civil society organisations to apply and application forms can be accessed on the Municipality’s website: www.durban.gov.za, Metro Ezasegagasini, on social media and in public newspapers.

Application forms will be made available from the Grant-in-Aid offices in Pinetown, Sizakala Centre Offices and councillors’ offices.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairperson of Governance and Human Resources Committee Councillor, Nompumelelo Sithole, said challenges identified in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) are always a priority to address.

“We need to encourage non-profit organisations which have not received in our areas to apply. This programme is crafted to assist organisations that have not been previously granted the funding,” said Sithole.
