6 new cases of cornonavirus confirmed by health minister

According to the national minister of health, a total of 3642 tests have been conducted.

THE national Minister of Health announced this morning that six new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed.

This takes the number of infected to 13.

In a statement Zweli Mkhize said there is one more new case in KwaZulu-Natal. This time, a 40-year-old male who had travelled to Portugal. He returned on 7 March.

In Gauteng there are four new cases that include a 33-year-old female who had travelled to Italy and returned on 1 March, a couple, 34-year-old male and a 33-year-old female who had travelled to Germany. They returned to South Africa on 9 March. Also a 57-year-old make who had travelled to Austria and Italy.

In the Western Cape a 36-year-old male who had travelled to multiple countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Turkey has become the latest victim of the deadly virus. He returned to South Africa on 9 March.

He said those who are symptomatic have been receiving treatment and some of these patients are already in hospital while some are in self quarantine. “Contact tracing has started for all these cases,” he said.

He said 3642 tests have been conducted.
