Hillcrest couple’s love beats all odds

HILLCREST couple, David and Lesley Konigkramer were ecstatic to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, 27 February.

The two met through David’s brother who thought Lesley will be a perfect match for David. “He asked for my picture to show his brother.”

David said he was also taken by Lesley’s beauty and asked her out. “When I saw the picture I knew that we will make it and that she was the one for me.”

Six months later, they got married at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

“We just clicked, I was only 16 when we got married. David came at the right time and I regard him as my hero who saved me from an unpleasant past,” said Lesley.

With David being a builder for most of his life, and a good handyman, he does a lot of work around the house, according to Lesley.

The couple has been living in the Hillcrest area for 56 years and said they have enjoyed the years they have shared together.

“We enjoy each other’s company, we share responsibilities and I suppose we just love each other,” said David.

As most couples do, the Konigkramers have faced difficulties along their life journey.

“In the past few years, my husband’s health deteriorated as he has had a few strokes and open heart surgery but because I vowed that we shall be together through sickness and health, we have managed to get through it,” said Lesley.

They are blessed with three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grand children.
