Treehouse series grows to new heights

Book review - The 117-Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton.

THE ninth book in the popular Treehouse series, The 117-Storey Treehouse, offers more laughs, jokes and funny pictures that have delighted and enticed its very young readers since the first book released in 2011.

As a parent of a not-so-reluctant-reader, I can attest to the popularity of this series for more than just the children who struggle to read. As an aunt to a reluctant reader, I know it is helpful to get even those who find reading tricky, to pick up a book.

This book offers a great incentive to read for those who are unwilling to pick up books for whatever reason, by making the books as different from school readers and text books as any book could possibly be.

My 11-year-old had this to say about the book:

I love all the Treehouse books because they are fun to read and the jokes are hysterical. It is fun to read them when I am relaxing and not wanting to think too hard,” said Evangeline Lilith-Morris Thomassen.

“They are perfect to read in-between study periods, or when waiting for someone in the house to find their shoes as you can just put it down and pick it up when you need something to occupy your time.”

My niece, 12, said she found the whole series helped her to get into a habit of reading when she was younger and now she really enjoys going back to them when she is needing something to distract her attention from her increasingly stressful life.

“I have a lot going on with finishing primary school and dance and church and all that,” explained Rachel Yon. “But I still like these books because they are fun and not too hard to read.”
