2 dead following bike crash on Paradise Valley bridge

A female passenger, who is believed to be in her 50s, was ejected over the bridge into the ravine 20 to 30 meters below.

THIS morning (12 January) at around 10.30am Rescue Care Paramedics were called to a serious bike accident on the Paradise Valley bridge on the M13 towards Pietermaritzburg.

According to Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson, paramedics found the bike and the driver, a male believed to be  in his 50’s, in a state of cardiac arrest.

“Despite advanced life support and attempted resuscitation, the man was declared dead on the scene,” said Jamieson.                                     

A female passenger, who is also believed to be in her 50s, was ejected over the bridge into the ravine  20 to 30 meters below.

“Her body was recovered in the ravine by the Durban Metro Search and Rescue Unit,” he added.

At this stage, events that led up to the crash are unknown. SAPS was on the scene and will be investigating further.
