‘Fetch your kids,’ says department of education as heavy storm looms

The directive comes following the spate of severe conditions that has lashed the province of KwaZulu-Natal since Sunday.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education wants all children not writing exams to be released immediately and sent home.

The statement by the department comes as bad weather is predicted later on today.

In a statement the department said: “Those who are writing must continue with their planned sessions and the released immediately after finishing. Where possible, parents must be informed to collect their children to ensure their safe return home.”

On Tuesday afternoon a tornado hit the Mpolweni settlement near Wartburg in KwaZulu-Natal.

Two people were killed and as many as 20 or more were left injured after the tornado’s devastating run through the town.

Its impact was felt in Durban where trees were uprooted in some areas and the tornado left scenes of destruction in its wake.
