The lovebirds met when they were teens in Scotland, “we were very young, I was 15 and my husband was 16. We met at a park, it was a very popular place for young people during those days,” said Margaret.

They got married after dating for five years, “I just knew she was the one. My wife is a family-orientated person and that is one of the things I love most about her and of course her colourful character,” said Alistair.

The Curries moved to South Africa when their two daughters were young.

“We have two daughters whose husbands are also brothers,” said Alistair who said they also have four grandchildren.

For Margaret and Alistair, it still feels like a dream that they have been together for so many years and have celebrated 50 years of happy marriage.

“It just came so quick, we still ask ourselves where has the time gone. I will be turning 70 soon but my husband always corrects me as I tell people that I’m turning 60,” laughed Margaret.

The couple advised young couples to look after each other and work together.

“There is no ‘I’ in a relationship. My husband is a very loving man who always puts other people first. We got along very well, never had any major issues, maybe we are just boring, but we have shared the happiest years together,” said a smiling Margaret.
