Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association welcomes new chairman

The Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association recently welcomed a new member and chairman.

AT the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association’s (KHBA) recent meeting, new office bearers were elected for the 2020 financial year and Jonathan Acutt was appointed as chairman.

“How very thrilled and happy we are to welcome Jonathan Acutt onto the committee as chairman. He expressed his view that he wanted to give back to the community and the association presented an opportunity for him to do so,” said the NPO’s vice chairman, Marge Mitchell.

“We are all delighted with the energy and youth he is bringing to the organisation.”

KHBA was established in 2006 and, back then, Marge Mitchell wrote a letter to the Highway Mail asking for any one who might be interested in maintaining and promoting the beautiful area of Hillcrest, to contact her. Marge received four calls and the association was born.

“For 14 years our aim has been to partner with businesses and residents and have them join our efforts and support us in keeping our lovely area beautiful. Our committee has seen changes in membership over the years, but four dedicated people, who have been with the association for 14 years, are still contributing their time and energy voluntarily,” said a proud Marge.

Despite its limited manpower, the committee’s efforts have resulted in the beautification of Hillcrest, the establishment of a successful and well-supported recycling centre, a weed-free rail reserve through Hillcrest that is enjoyed by cyclists and walkers and the adoption of the park in Elizabeth Road that is enjoyed by the public and their dogs.

“Thanks must go to the committee members who give of their time so selflessly,” said Marge.
