Help Hillcrest Villagers grow youth rugby

To send their youth rugby players to play for the Sharks Youth teams, the local club needs to raise more than R70 000.

THE Hillcrest Villagers’ Youth and Colts Rugby Club needs your help by sponsoring one of its 11 dedicated players.

The club’s chairman, Natascha Kretzel, has been on a whirlwind fund-raiser drive to ensure that each of the players on the teams, ranging from U13 to U18, has what they need to take part and compete, whether it is local or away.

“We have been blessed this year with a jersey sponsor, so our Villagers U13 to U18 teams will be in new playing kits and a whole new jersey design, thanks to Build It Pinetown. DDR and Associates has sponsored our U18 boys with step out shirts and the U16 team with shorts. This, unfortunately, is not enough. Not all our boys are fortunate enough to have everything they need for rugby,” said Natascha.

Boots, socks, shorts, gum guards, transport to and from practice and games, as well as the club fees, are out of a lot of the boys’ grasp. Parents at the club have donated kits that a few other teammates have out grown, but there is not enough to go around.

“We are asking for sponsors to help us grow rugby in our area and help us cover costs. This can be done as a once off payment into our account, or as monthly installments. We are asking for R700 to sponsor a boy for a season at club and, a big ask, R7 500 for our boys who make Sharks Youth teams,” she said.

Sharks Youth are selected every season and the boys play at a different venue each year. This year it will be held in Kempton Park during the October school holidays and the local teams will take on the Lions, Bulls and Valke. The cost is R7 500 per boy and includes transport, kit and meals while on tour.
