This was sparked by the murder of Ayakha Jiyane who was allegedly murdered by his stepfather on Tuesday.

The man allegedly hanged his three biological children before fetching Ayakha from school.

He was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after being spotted by members of the community who alerted the police.

He is set to appear in court tomorrow, Friday, 6 September.

Makhoba said they are all touched and saddened by these attacks, especially because Ayakha is from their sister school, Pinetown Girls’ High School.

He said although he did not know her personally, people who knew her said she was a lovely person with a bubbly character.

The outspoken Makhoba said at Pinetown Boys’ they are raised to be true blue gentleman, “and we have a strong moral code that we live by and therefore we are all appalled by what is currently happening in our country and we have female teachers who are mothers to us.”

He added that on behalf of the Pinetown Boys’ High School learners and staff,  they ask fellow South Africans to all join hands and put a stop to this horrific reality by uniting and keeping each other safe.

“We are one, stop gender-based violence,” said Makhoba.
