Loss spurs winning determination

Kearsney College's 1 XI soccer team aims to up their game before the end of the season.

KEARSNEY College’s 1st XI soccer team travelled to play Hilton College on Saturday in cold and windy conditions.

Kearsney got off to the worst possible start and conceded a goal in the first minute of the game due to a midfield mis-pass.

Poor defending of a corner kick led to Hilton’s second goal inside nine minutes.

Within a short space of time, it was 3 – 0 to Hilton as the visitors were unable to get into the game.

Kearsney made some adjustments to their formation in the second half and this seemed to pay off as the team started competing at a higher level. The effort led to a Kearsney penalty when a Hilton defender handled the ball in the penalty area, but unfortunately Kearsney hit the crossbar.

The missed chance did not affect the team as they pressed hard for a goal. At the other end of the field, Kearsney’s goalkeeper, Jordan Baker, had an excellent game as he acrobatically thwarted many of Hilton’s further attempts at a goal. Hilton beat Kearsney 3 – 0.
