Hard-hitting punk bobbed the heads

Three underground but diverse bands bought the heat on a cold winter’s evening at Hillcrest’s Pablo Honey.

With a disco ball hovering over and a shot of an old colourless film being projected onto the stage, an intimate crowd came together and were exposed to a refreshingly new music offering that left them wanting more.

The first band to take the stage was alternative hip-hop group, Oudskul Thoughts who belted out “faka imali” with their boisterous stage presence that set the bar relatively high for the rest of the performers.

The seated crowd offered all of their attention to the artists who returned the favour by leaving it all on out on the stage.

The highly anticipated performance by Hated Related lived up to expectation.

The punk trio took charge with their hard-hitting original songs that had the crowd violently bobbing their heads and soaking in a rare evening of punk in the Upper Highway.

The garage, two piece psychedelic-rock band, Mouse, closed the evening’s proceedings with a noisy but enjoyable offering that felt as carefree as a jam-session in a garage somewhere. The duo were as comfortable as ever playing their trippy electric guitar and the skillful, Christopher Chay tearing up the drums.
