Hillcrest Villagers win against DUT Rhinos

The Villagers' 3rd XV have a bye this weekend but the group's 1st and 2nd XV teams will compete against Drakensberg on Saturday.

THE Turaco/Envirosan – Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club 3rd XV continued its unbeaten form this season when they hosted the Durban University of Technology.

The somewhat older and more mature Villagers’ side was treated to a hard and physical onslaught by the youngsters from Durban.

DUT were first out of the starting blocks and drew first blood with an unconverted try.

The Villagers slowed the ball down, consolidated their scrimmaging, swung the ball far and wide and allowed their backs to open up the visitor’s defence.

The sheer physicality was the mark of the game as the students showed they were geared up to play some hard and serious rugby.

Meditech Ambulance staff were kept very busy with a number of trips to and from hospital, as injuries clocked up on both sides.

At the end of the 80 minutes, the Hillcrest lads had asserted their age and experience with a hard-earned 28 – 5 win.
